The Amyntaio plateau is defined by water. Four lakes — Vegoritida (one of Greece’s largest), Petron, Zazari and Cheimaditida — form a wetland complex of European importance, protected under Natura 2000.

Herons, cormorants, and the rare Dalmatian pelican nest here; otters live in the reed beds. Birdwatching hides and lakeside paths are found at Zazari and Cheimaditida, while Vegoritida offers swimming and water sports in summer at Agios Panteleimonas.

Above the lakes rise the beech and oak forests of Vitsi, home to bears, wolves and deer — a paradise for hiking and mountain biking.
