The Municipality of Amyntaio lies in the heart of Western Macedonia, Greece, in the regional unit of Florina. Spread across a high plateau at around 600 metres altitude, it covers 599.6 km² and is home to about 14,000 residents in the town of Amyntaio and 25 local communities.

Few places in Greece combine so much in so small an area: four lakes (Vegoritida, Petron, Zazari and Cheimaditida), the celebrated stone-built village of Nymfaio, the naturally sparkling mineral waters of Xino Nero, and one of the country’s most distinctive wine regions — the PDO Amyntaio zone of the Xinomavro grape.

The municipality in its present form was created in 2011 by the merger of the former municipalities of Amyntaio, Aetos, Filotas and the communities of Variko, Lechovo and Nymfaio.
